Is mystery shopping for real?

Yes, mystery shopping is for real. There are some scams out there though, so be careful. Any mystery shopping company that asks for money is a scam. Now, there are a few referral companies, that will train you and give you a database of companies and they will charge a fee. Most of these companies are ok, just check out any companies with the BBB to make sure they are legitimate before sending any money. This is not necessary to sign up with a referral company in order to mystery shop, however sometimes it is very helpful. There any several hundred mystery shopping companies out there, make sure they are legitmate and a good company before filling out an application with them because many companies do require your SSN in order to be paid and for tax purposes. (you must make at least $600 a year from a company before you get a W-2 and have to pay taxes.) Mystery shopping is a good way to make extra money. It is pretty easy to make $100-$200 extra a month. If you sign up with alot of companies and can travel to other nearby cities you can earn even more. The typical shop pays anywhere between $5-$30 or more, depending on the shop. The typical time frame to do a shop is between 10 minutes and 1 hour, sometimes longer depending on the shop. Typically the longer the shop the more the pay rate is.
